#20 - When a Loved One Breaks Down: Rethinking Trauma, Psychosis, and Healing

SUMMARY

In this episode, we hold space for the complex and often overwhelming experience of active trauma states or psychosis. We explore how these experiences can sometimes overlap with spiritual awakening, while also acknowledging how different and unique each person’s journey is. Sometimes there’s clear insight or meaning; other times it’s incoherence, dysregulation and overwhelm. We discuss the urgent need to move beyond quick labels, assumptions, or just medication, and instead respond with deep curiosity, compassionate listening, and respect. While emergency psychiatric care remains crucial for safety in certain circumstances, we also imagine a truly healing approach that includes multiple layers of therapeutic intervention.

This episode is an invitation to rethink how we understand and care for those in crisis, honoring the full complexity of what’s happening when the ego cracks.
